How is the election campaign now?

According to reliable information we got from our membership island wide, the present Ex Co is extremely unhappy about the very poor attendance recorded at their election meetings. They have compared them with the attendance of Dr Padeniya’s meetings. Their extreme concern was towards their Hambanthota meeting which was conducted soon after their opponent party’s meeting which ended up with empty chairs.
Upon analyzing the situation, they have found out the following reasons for their drawbacks,

1. The fact that they do not have anything to present as of their own, which they have done during the last 2-3 years (in the absence of Dr.Padeniya.)
2. Members not being interested in listening to the same old stuff which they have been telling for ages.
3. Widespread suspicion on their “apolitical “nature.
4. Lack of New faces joining their election campaign.
5. Member’s suspicion on their mode of transport (Aerial route?), and the relevant funding.

So a person who believes him to be the “Master Mind “, had come up with a “Brilliant Idea”-That is to ask for open Debates with the other party.

But everybody knows that debates end up in a state of dilemma, where listeners get confused at the end. But this also will be a great achievement for them since they have got no popularity to lose.

  3. All public officers in the government sector work from Monday to Friday, salary scales of government officers are based on these conditions qualifications. As far as rules, regulations fundamental rights are concerned all workers and laborers entitle to Saturday and Sunday off. Many medical officers have died prematurely, others are having various illnesses as they do not have time to look after their own health matters. In developed countries number of working hours for medical officers tend to be continuously reduced and restricted in order to relieve work stress in hospitals.
At the moment, government has successfully completed a pilot project. Five days a week program has now been extended to many other hospitals in Anuradhapura and Kurunagala. Who ever is going to be elected as GMOA office bearers their first duty is to make sure that 5 days a week working hours for doctors to be implemented as early possible on an Island wide basis.
This is some thing a union can do for the medical profession as it is extremely important for the membership to improve their physical and mental health before every thing else. Their families need to be looked after, stress of working and stress of travelling need to be minimized and life expectancy of medical officers need to be improved. One of the GMOA presidents also had a heart ailment. Every body needs to try and achieve this objective before every thing else. Unfortunately this issue has not even mentioned in any of the propaganda leaflets. Please think about it before it is too late, medical officers are dying at an accelerated speed. At least family members need to be in good health.
