Last minute Bonanza

A SMS Says, “Present ex co achieved…40000 thousand housing allowance for all doctors and 60000 thousand for consultants, Vote for present Ex Co to do further ……

Keep your eyes open wide
Annual election on it’s way
Many more miracles-yet to come
No time left for you to sway

We are shaking a tree of wealth
Allowance, cock tail dinner dance
Revised OT, Car permit
On your day of retirement

Comfy vehicle good to health
Will be there to get your vote
Appealing smiles of Ex Co
Which have been never before?

This is a moment- one would get
Only once, in a life time
Remember your days, they’ve eaten
Do not give, them any chance!

  1. If the doctors do not survive until retirement? First of all they need to be there to get all those benifits. Let the GMOA do some thing for living members.

All public officers in the government sector work from Monday to Saturday, salary scales of government officers are based on these conditions qualifications. As far as rules, regulations fundamental rights are concerned all workers and laborers entitle to Saturday and Sunday off. Many medical officers have died prematurely, others are having various illnesses as they do not have time to look after their own health matters. In developed countries number of working hours for medical officers tend to be continuously reduced and restricted in order to relieve work stress in hospitals.
At the moment, government has successfully completed a pilot project. Five days a week program has now been extended to many other hospitals in Anuradhapura and Kurunagala. Who ever is going to be elected as GMOA office bearers their first duty is to make sure that 5 days a week working hours for doctors to be implemented as early possible on an Island wide basis.
This is some thing a union can do for the medical profession as it is extremely important for the membership to improve their physical and mental health before every thing else. Their families need to be looked after, stress of working and stress of travelling need to be minimized and life expectancy of medical officers need to be improved. One of the GMOA presidents also had a heart ailment. Every body needs to try and achieve this objective before every thing else. Unfortunately this issue has not even mentioned in any of the propaganda leaflets. Please think about it before it is too late, medical officers are dying at an accelerated speed. At least family members need to be in good health.

  2. I am sorry
    Please correct the sentence. As

All public officers in the government sector work from Monday to Friday.

Obviously that is the way it is remembered, we tend to work like that. Other possibility is poor English knowledge.

    Kind regards

  3. ‘We are shaking a tree of wealth

As reiterated above, so many doctors die before retirement, two young doctors passed away within this year in Kandy, another doctor passed away in Badulla recently, one of the GMOA presidents also expired before retirement. Obviously, I have no intention or future plans to contest GMOA elections. Actually, bonanza need to be given to medical officers while they are young and working six days a week and they are oncall on Sundays, working only 365 days per year. Before GMOA offer proposed attractive bonanza please try and implement 5 days a week working schedule in all hospitals in the Island, just like it is implemented for all other public officers. This has been delayed for several years giving various excuses. Very often Medical officers tend forget and ignore their own health issues. I had to reiterate this issue due to the fact that one of the crucial issues has been ignored by all contesters. We wish all medical officers good mental and physical health.

    Good luck and best regards!
